“Arima Onsen” - one of Japan’s three most ancient and reputable onsens.
Mint Resort Inn Arima’s hot spring is privately fed, which you seldom see in the Arima resort. The hot spring, gushing up from 800 meters underground, contains high levels of iron. This changes color to a reddish-brown when exposed to air, by oxidization. This famous hot spring is known as the Kin-Sen or Golden Hot Spring. “KIN” means gold in Japanese. It is the spring of life. The relaxing waters of the hot spring cause peripheral vasodilation (the widening of the external blood vessel) which assists in keeping the skin ultra-moisturized and warm. No extra water is added or filtered, it is 100% pure, natural hot spring water and certified by the Japan Spa Association.
History of Arima
In 1583, after defeating rivals Mitsuhide Akechi(1528-1582) and Katsuie Shibata(1522?-1583),the great General Hideyoshi Toyotomi(1537-1598)visited to Arima Onsen. Located at the foot of Mount Rokko in the Hyogo Prefecture, Hideyoshi returned to Arima Onsen many times to relax and unwind after many years of war. Hideyoshi himself onwed a luxury onsen palace called Yunoyama-goten, which has a private onsen and garden. Unfortunately, it suffered crushing damage due to an unexpected natural disaster. Reconstruction of his palace took over two years to complete. It is said that Hideyoshi was never able to experience his onsen after its completion, due to personal illness and a further natural disaster.
Because of the close relationship with Hideyoshi and his deep love of Arima, many statues and buildings relating to Hideyoshi remain in the town.
